St. Mary of the Angels
Preschool was first licensed by the State of Florida in 1985. For more than 20 years we have been providing an early education
to children ages 2 years to 4 years. Our low teacher to student ratios allow us to individualize our lessons to meet the needs
of each child.
OUR PHILOSOPHY is to stimulate self confidence, curiosity,
self-discipline, creativity and cooperation. To educate the whole child focusing on
all areas of a child's development: spiritual, social, emotional, cognitive and physical. We believe that we are not only preparing your child for kindergarten but preparing him/her for life.
OUR CURRICULUM:
In the fall of 2007 we began using the HighReach Curriculum. It is a theme based
curriculum that provides learning experiences that are age appropriate, fun, and challenging. If you would like to take a
closer look at this curriculum please go to their website at www.highreach.com. Additionally we will be incorporating a Bible story monthly that will coincide with the children's chapel
lessons.
In addition to the HighReach
Curriculum we will be using Handwriting Without Tears (www.hwtears.com) in our Pre-K classes. This program is a wonderful way to teach children handwriting skills in an age appropriate and fun
way.
TWO YEAR
OLD CLASS (Must be 2 years of age by September 1st 2008
Twos are exploding in their power to communicate, to move
purposely, to assert their independence and individuality, and to control their important bodily functions. Twos swing back
and forth and often are conflicted by what they really want to do. Their imagination and desire often exceed their competence.
They need manageable challenges and mastery experience. They need a relaxed environment that allows for
frequent changes in moods, interests, and capabilities. Twos, in particular, need teachers to be learning consultants who
accept them in their entire inconsistent behavior, setting limits comely and firmly when necessary.
Changes to the learning environment, activities, and projects
reflect emerging interests and individual goals. Learning centers offer guided experiences that encompass
all the skills and understanding necessary for optimum development and success in school.
Throughout the day, children make self-directed and guided
choices, participate in small groups and projects, join in brief circle-times with the whole group, and reflect upon their
learning experiences.
THREE YEAR OLD CLASS (Must be 3 years of age by Sept 1st 2008)
At the core of our Three Year Old program are well-planned learning
centers that allow for child choice and self-directed play, small groups, and supportive teaching that prepares children for
academic excellence. The development of language, mathematical reasoning, and scientific thought is emphasized throughout
all the centers. Changes to the learning environment, activities, and projects reflect emerging interests and individual goals.
Learning centers offer guided experiences that encompass all the skills and understanding necessary for optimum development
and success in school.
Our
Three Year Old Program focuses on the whole child including social and emotional development, as well as cognitive development.
We use many ways to do this including planned lessons and those learning moments that we can not plan for but always present
themselves.
FOUR YEAR
OLD CLASS (Must be 4 years of age by Sept 1st 2008)
The program is designed
for each child to learn all the necessary skills and understandings to succeed in kindergarten and continue to thrive academically
and socially. Our Four Year Old program utilizes learning centers like our other classes; but also incorporates a more extensive
handwriting curriculum in the day’s activities.
We strive to provide the children in our program with challenging learning experiences that will allow each child to
learn at his or her own developmental level and to be successful. Using the High Reach Curriculum and Handwriting Without
Tears children are provided opportunities throughout the day to learn their names, writing first and last names,
increasing vocabulary, pre reading skills, math and science skills, as well as the social and emotional development learned
while interacting with other students and their teachers.
Throughout the day, children make self-directed and guided choices, participate in small groups
and projects, join in brief circle-times with the whole group, and reflect upon their learning experiences.
